in the Head of the Soar race. This is the first time the club has attended this small yet popular event held on the River Soar covering a 3000 m distance.
The Junior Coaches wanted to give their crews a race following the disappointment of being withdrawn from our own Head race, a fortnight ago, due to the high volume of entries. The NRC crews ranging from Junior 14 – 18 girls and boys were delighted to gain the experience of racing against clubs
from outside our own region.
The club returned 2 wins for the older Junior girls (17 yr & 18yr) who raced in Women’s Senior categories of Women’s Intermediate 3 & Women’s Novice
coxed fours.
This squad is a product of the long standing NRC Junior Development Plan having started the sport as 13 year old scullers. They have been growing in strength and ability in sweep oar boats over the past few months. These wins are a good indication of their potential for the next racing year with the prestigious Henley Women’s Regatta 2012 in their sights. Coach Kevin Jump explained “We had a very enjoyable day and all the NRC crews performed extremely well. The girls in particular had decisive wins with the WIM3 crew beating Leicester RC by one second and the Women’s Novice crew racing well to beat six other crews.”
Winning crews:
WIM3 coxed four: Harriet Beesley, Alice Elliot, Beth Wynne, Emma Chaplin (s), cox Chloe Weston.
WNovice coxed four: Libby Weltman, Ash Hudson, Beth Chaplin, Kate Meehan (s), cox Becky Jones.
The club will be sending 6 crews on Sat 4 December to the Head of the Float hosted by Liverpool Victoria RC situated on the Wirrell
