The Head of the Float race is hosted by Liverpool Victoria RC at Wallasey floating dock. Weather conditions play a vital part for the organisers of this event and this year it was very nearly cancelled in anticipation of the wild weather conditions predicted. The competitors were fortunate that there were no large ships docked however we were not so fortunate with the weather. The club sent a mix of male and female senior and junior crews.
This race is over two legs and for safety reasons the course was shortened to
600m each way, to use the more sheltered area of the dock. However, no where escaped the ravages of the strong, gusting wind and driving rain in the early divisions. Fortunately, the weather conditions improved through the day but it remained challenging for coxes and rowers alike.
The club returned one win for the junior girls racing in Women’s Novice Eights
finishing well ahead of their competitors Kings Sch Chester BC, Liverpool University BC & Runcorn RC.
All the crews young and old will remember this event as “an experience”!
Winning crew:
