We all arrived on Tuesday and the lads had a practice start with Claires Court obliging as opposition. The awesome size venue really hit home even with the empty stands the prestigious 1 mile 550yd (2,112m) course is daunting.
On Wednesday we were drawn in Fawley Cup of the day against Webridge who had come through the qualifiers. The quad led from the start with the Northwich Posse listening keenly on Regatta Radio as the race developed by the time they reach us they were 1 1/2 lengths ahead. The result at the finishing line was a two length win to Northwich.
The great news we were the first All Northwich Crew to get through the first day, out next opponents were Sir William Borlase, last years winners although with some crews changes. The boys rowed well with regatta radio commentating on the good sculling but Borlase (who eneded up in the final) were just too fast for us on the day.
It has given the lads a taste for Henley and next year when they will go back older and stronger. We must thank Jed so his tireless support both at Henley and before in helping us qualify. Thanks to all of Northwich Rowing Clubs Supporters for all the messages of good luck and congratualions and to those who came to watch and those who had to stay at home. A big thanks also to Runcorn Rowing Club who lent us a boat for the three weeks before.
